Meaning of Perspective and their use in Sociology

• The meaning of perspective is “Viewpoint” or  “stand point” or “perception” or insight or  “outlook”.

•There is not a single way of viewing or observing the  society. Sociologist view society in a different way. 

• Sociologist  have their own way  of understanding society and its dynamics  in a theoretical manner.

• A theory is an interrelated  set of constructs ( or variables)  formed into propositions, or hypothesis that specify the relationship among variables ( Creswell, 2009).

• A  theory  might appear  in a research study as an arrangement, a discussion or  a rational, and it helps to explain ( predict ) phenomenon that occur  in the world ( Creswell, 2009).

Theoretical Perspective

• Some sociologist  see the social world  as a stable 
( constant) and  an ongoing unity. They are impressed with the  endurance ( staying power or stamina) of the family, organized religion, and other social institutions
 ( Functionalist Perspective).

•Some other sociologists  see societies as  composed of many groups in conflict, competing for scarce (inadequate) resources ( Conflict Perspective).

•According to other sociologists the most interesting  aspect of the social world  are the every day life, routine interactions among individuals ( Interactionist perspective)
